Burglary

Although Mr Beaumont claimed his house was burgled, the police hold no record that Mr Beaumont reported any burglary at his home on the day after the dinner party.

However according to the police inventory taken after his arrest, the house seems to be lacking many of the items one would expect to find in such a household. There is no computer, nor television, stereo, hi-fi. This seems unusual.

However I have no evidence to show that such things were ever there at all. Perhaps you might recall from personal visits?

Telephone

I have managed to get hold of a list of calls made from the Beaumont family home during the last fortnight (don’t ask!).

The emergency services have logged an incomplete 999 call made during the afternoon. The caller hung up before the operator took details, but, as is usual, the call was recorded. It lasted less than 2 seconds. This was the only call made to any police number from this telephone.

The number principally dialled was Mrs Beaumont’s cell phone, sometimes at very late hours. No messages were left on her answering service.

Library ticket

Mr Beaumont’s library ticket was issued over a year ago and granted by the usual visual evidence (utility bill, bank statement etc) displaying Mr Beaumont’s home address. The library’s paperwork all seems in order and Mr Beaumont had signed the acceptance of terms.

The list of books Mr Beaumont appears to have taken out over the year is largely in the area of violence, in fact there were no books loaned which could not be classified as such:

- A History of Torture throughout the Ages by George Ryley Scott

- 120 Days of Sodom and various other works by the Marquis de Sade

- A guide to Forensic Medicine

- Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler

- Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche

- A picture book on Crime Scenes and forensic detection

- An Encyclopaedia of Serial Killers

Innumerable individual accounts of serial killers including biographies and studies of Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, Charles Manson, The Boston Strangler, The Moors Murderers, Henry Lee Lucas, The Hillside Stranglers, Edmund Kemper, The Yorkshire Ripper, Ed Gein…etcetera. [It is a very long list of books]

The last two withdrawals were a book about Jerry Brudos, a man who murdered and tortured numerous young women in his garage whilst, totally unawares, his wife and children went on with their lives in the adjacent house, and a study of The Chicago Rippers, two men who kidnapped, mutilated and ultimately murdered women in the 1980s. These books were returned to the library the day after Jane Grimshaw went missing. One book remains checked out: Psychopathia Sexualis, by Dr Richard von Krafft-Ebing.

Mr Beaumont’s car

I ran a check on Mr Beaumont’s car, a Renault Mégane, and only one thing of relevance came up. Mr Beaumont received a parking ticking at 16.27 on Thursday soon after he was seen in the library by
